This year I've been obessing over a local beach - Llangrannog. This year more than others, the light and ambience there has been spellbinding. 
I've been down there most evenings when ever possible, and have made a series of sketches on canvas and on paper. I'll be referring to these sketches in the winter months when I will paint a new large 'Llangrannog'.  Sketches are a vital part of the process for me when building up to a large painting, as David Hockney says "painting is about engaging the hand, the eye and the heart." The pleaurable discipline of returning to a place to sketch, sketch, sketch  fills the hand, eye, and heart with knowledge and inspiation.
