.Manifesto
The manifesto this painting refers to is the learning that a group of hundred artists and I participated in over January. I had summarised the 30 days in a few paragraphs for these artists and was looking at the words as I completed this painting. Instead of just looking at it, I read it aloud and then wrote it into the painting.
"you cannot get it wrong and have the ultimate guide already within you.
Just learn to listen to your own wisdom - the little playful part of you. Be easy on yourselves spend more time doing things that make you feel good. If just splashing around in the red pigment make you feel good do more of that. Spend more time outside, breathe, smell the smells, look at the trees. Don’t push yourself, be easy. Choose a path that makes you feel good. Be aware of your thoughts. Be especially aware of your thoughts when you’re consuming social media. Turn off anything that doesn’t support your well-being or make you feel good or educate you or make you feel connected to others. Appreciate. Listen intently to your preferences, tune in to those signals, initially they might not be very strong, but that is a muscle that will develop. As in art so in life. Don’t worry about making time for art having the right materials or having the right place to work it doesn’t matter. The only thing that you need to do is tune in to and observe, to be the observer of your thoughts. This is the way in which art is created and your reality is created.
When I started my training as a psychologist, in the drawer of the desk that I was given there was a piece of paper with these notes be aware of your thoughts they become your words, be aware of your words that become your actions, be aware of your actions they become you. This is so true and I’ve continued to live by these words. Whenever there’s something in my art or in my life that I feel disconnected from, it’s simply an opportunity to examine what my thoughts are about the matter, in fact more than just an opportunity it’s a wonderful opportunity. One opportunity I hope you’ll take more often."
